Well, it was Friday morning and time to venture off to Williamsburg, VA for our summer vacation. (Not for the historical-learning aspects, mind you. More for the Busch Gardens and Water Country Parks! In a few years, we'll make sure the kids learn something on their vacation. This time it might just be all fun! : )
So we packed up and headed South. Made great time when we arrived in Baltimore, one of our favorite cities. We stopped at the Inner Harbor, pointed out Camden Yards (where we'll have to plan a stop for another time) and grabbed lunch at Capitol City Brewing Company. All I can say is YUMMY! From the warm soft pretzels and horseradish mustard they give you to start off your meal to the awesome Old Bay marinara sauce that comes with the fried calamari, everything was delish! We might have to make another stop on our way back home!
Did a little walking around, window-shopped for a bit, and made sure Thing 3 never fell into the water (whew!)...after 3 hours, we were finally back on the road. Only to find that we were now going to hit DC traffic at just the right time....lovely...and on a Friday, no less, where it seems EVERYONE is looking to get somewhere!
The kids held it together for the most part. We did get our taste of "Are we there yets?" from Thing 2. Though I would take that over Thing 3's screaming any day! Not my idea of a good time! Wish us luck for the way home.
So what should have been an easy 4 1/2 hour trip (not including stops) turned into 10 hours, equivalent to most work days WITH overtime! We arrived around 8pm and the kids were thrilled with their home away from home (thanks Nana!!) We grabbed dinner at a yummy pizzeria and put the kids to bed at 11pm. Long day...oh, and did I mention Thing 3 never napped? Oh well, it's vacation, right?
